108 people were hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning after eating food given at a campaign rally held in Lake Sebu town in South Cotabato province. The victims suffered from severe diarrhea and vomiting.
Lake Sebu Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office head Roberto Baggong said that the victims eat “pancit bihon” during the political event in Sitio Bayabas, Barangay Tasiman.
Unfortunately, the campaign rally attendees who consumed the food suffered diarrhea and vomiting after an hour. The victims were residents of Barangays Tasiman and Lamfugon.
The victims have been brought to Lake Sebu Community Health Care Complex at the town center for immediate treatment and medication. The rescuers took a few moments before picking up the victims due to the remoteness of the area.
According to the reports, 57 of the victims were minors including young kids while the rest of them were pregnant women and senior citizens. Mayor Floro Gandam also ensured that patients received proper medical treatment.
Gandam also said that the local government unit will investigate the incident. “We’re looking into this incident and will make appropriate actions to ensure that it will not happen again,” Gandam said.
