Local Artists Get Their Chance to Shine as Cebu City Unveils New Busking Program
BUSKING PROGRAM – Public parks and landmarks across Cebu City are set to become livelier as local artists are allowed to perform through a newly introduced busking program.
Cebu City has officially introduced a new busking program aimed at providing local artists and performers with opportunities to showcase their talents in public spaces. The initiative reflects the city government’s commitment to promoting arts and culture while creating more engaging experiences for residents and tourists alike.
Through the program, approved performers will be allowed to present their artistic works in several prominent locations around the city. These designated venues include Plaza Sugbu, Fuente Osmeña Circle, Plaza Independencia, Senior Citizens’ Park, and Freedom Park. By utilizing these public areas, the city hopes to bring creative performances closer to the community and encourage greater appreciation for local talent.
The busking program is open to both solo artists and performing groups. Participants may represent a wide range of artistic disciplines, including music, dance, visual arts, spoken-word presentations, and other forms of creative expression. The initiative seeks to provide artists with a platform where they can share their skills while contributing to the city’s vibrant cultural atmosphere.
In addition to supporting performers, the program is expected to enhance the appeal of public spaces by offering free entertainment and artistic displays. Residents and visitors can look forward to experiencing diverse performances as they visit some of Cebu City’s most popular landmarks.
To encourage participation, the Cebu City Government has already begun accepting applications from interested artists. Mayor Nestor Archival announced the opening of the registration process through an online application form, which was shared on his official Facebook page on June 13, 2026.
Applications submitted by aspiring buskers will undergo a review and evaluation process to ensure that participants meet the program’s requirements. Those selected will be notified via email or telephone.
The launch of the busking program marks another step in Cebu City’s efforts to nurture local creativity and provide artists with meaningful opportunities for public exposure. By offering dedicated performance spaces, the city aims to enhance its cultural landscape while providing talented individuals with opportunities to connect with broader audiences.
