Paul Soriano Explains Controversial BBM Ad Shoot On January 8

PAUL SORIANO – Movie director Paul Soriano faces criticisms after posting some behind-the-scene snippets during an ad shoot for BBM.

Famous film director Paul Soriano is the husband of a multi-awarded host and actress Toni Gonzaga. And amid the raging controversies of the politicians as the May election nears, the director got himself caught up in the middle of it. He directed an ad shoot to promote Bongbong Marcos-Sara Duterte tandem and he candidly posted a photo of the date where one of the clips was taken.

It was dated January 8, the day after the hearing of Marcos that he did not attend. The hearing was about the disqualification case against his presidential bid after it has been proven that he got convicted of a tax evasion case. The Commission on Elections’ preliminary conference on disqualification petitions against him was supposed to be held on January 7 but he did not attend because of some health issues.

According to the issued medical certificate signed by Dr. Benedict Francis Valdecanas on January 7, it stated that Marcos suffered from body malaise and that he had “difficulty in speaking due to a painfully congested throat”. And seeing a January 8 ad shoot from the post of Soriano has created confusion for many people online. It gave them the assumption that BBM did the shoot on January 8 but was not present on January 7’s hearing about his DQ.

Clarifying the issues and the assumptions, Soriano explained in a post, “The UNITY commerical was shot all over the Philippines for one week. On January 8, 2022 I was in Davao with my staff and crew shooting the Davao portion of the commerical. We were in Brgy. Kapatagan capturing the beauty of Mt. Apo.”

If it was shot before, the whole production should have been quarantined after Jan 6

To recall, Toni, his wife, also faced criticisms online over her “brainwashing” interview with Marcos in her channel. People spoke up about it and the interview created a wave of collective anger because to the majority, it seemed like the interview did not elaborate the truth, at some point.

BBM is the son of the late dictator president whose administration has killed and tortured thousands. Also, although it wasn’t mentioned in that interview, BBM is Toni and Paul’s “ninong” or godfather during their wedding.
