Hechanova is facing various charges such as robbery, extortion, intimidation, violation of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act, and the Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Government Officials and Employees, according to NBI Agent-in-Charge Medrobel Ylanan.

Ylanan said that the suspect’s illegal activity started after he sent a letter to the businessman last year over alleged tax deficiency of P4.5 million that could reach P6 million, including penalty fees.

The businessman asked for adjustment but another BIR employee called and explained that the tax deficiency can be reduced to P400, 000. However, the personnel explained that a receipt will not be issued instead a letter of termination will be released.

The letter of termination will serve as a proof that the tax deficiency has been exterminated but the businessman sought the help of NBI after he noticed something fishy with the transaction.

On January 18, the businessman went to the BIR office and asked to pay only P200, 000 and promised to pay the balance after a few days. The suspect even forced him complete the P400, 000 payment.

Ylanan also urged other individuals who experienced the same modus. “I urge other businessmen who have the same experience and problem to come to us,” Ylanan said.
