Oyo Sotto & Danica Reveal Why They Will Not Be Hurt Without an Inheritance From Vic Sotto & Dina Bonnevie
OYO SOTTO – Despite being born to two of the biggest names in Philippine entertainment, siblings Oyo Sotto and Danica Sotto have also experienced criticism and negative comments due to their famous parents, Vic Sotto and Dina Bonnevie.
Many people have assumed that the celebrity siblings rely on their parents to support their own families. Others have even suggested that Oyo and Danica are simply waiting to inherit wealth from Vic and Dina, rather than working hard for themselves.
During a recent episode of the House of D YouTube channel, the siblings candidly discussed being labelled as “nepo babies,” with some critics believing they no longer needed to work because of their privileged upbringing.
Recalling one of the comments he received, Oyo shared, “May nag-comment, laro lang daw ako nang laro. Hindi na daw ako nagtatrabaho.”
Dina also remembered reading similar remarks online, saying, “Oo, may nag-comment, ‘Iyan si Oyo, panay asa sa tatay, di nagtatrabaho iyan.’”
Danica quickly defended herself and her brother, saying, “Masyado namang makapag-judge. At saka, sorry to say, pero hindi po kami pinalaking ganoon ng mommy at daddy namin.”
Oyo explained that the misconception likely came from the numerous television projects he shared with his father over the years.
“Feeling ko, that’s why iniisip nila umaasa ako kay Daddy, that time, gumagawa kami ng mga sitcoms ni Daddy, dire-diretso iyon.”
He was referring to the sitcoms Daddy’s Gurl, Bossing & Ai, Hay, Bahay! and Vampire ang Daddy Ko, where he worked alongside Vic Sotto.
Defending his career, Oyo stressed that he earned his income by working on those productions rather than simply receiving financial support from his father.
“I think working for your dad is the best job you can do as a son. I was working for my dad. Hindi nila nakikita iyon.
“Akala nila sinusuwelduhan lang ako ni Daddy, pero hindi nila alam na nagtatrabaho ka para sa tatay mo,” said Oyo.
Dina agreed, pointing out how those experiences prepared her son for his current work in production.
“Kung hindi iyon ginawa ng daddy mo, ngayong nagpo-produce tayo ng Good Life Media, do you think meron ka na ng mga kaalaman mo ngayon sa production?”
The conversation later shifted to inheritance, with Oyo making it clear that he does not believe parents are obligated to leave wealth behind for their children.
“I don’t think na obligasyon ng bawat magulang na mag-iwan ng pera. But, if you have extra, di ba, sige bigyan mo.”
Asked whether he and Danica had ever discussed inheritance, Oyo replied, “Kami ni Ate, we’ve said this a lot of times na if you’re gonna bless us, thank you.
“As in that’s a big help, di ba, whenever you bless us, Mommy…si Daddy. Whenever Dad blesses us, super thank you. If not, okay lang din. Hindi kami magagalit. Hindi kami magtatampo. Why? Kasi, ang ultimate provider naman namin si God, e,” the actor said.
He also expressed concern over people who view inheritance as an entitlement.
“Yes, God uses you, si Daddy, and whoever to bless people. Pero wag naman din sana isipin na obligasyon, and wag din sana isipin ng mga bata na, ‘Oy, magbigay ka sa akin, ha? Oy, pamanahan…’
“Kasi alam ko may mga ganoong tao. Gusto nang mamatay ang magulang para may mana. Parang ang pangit naman,” he added.
Addressing his mother directly, Oyo added, “We know naman na you had a family of your own, si Daddy has a family of his own. So, kami ni Ate, kung may mabibigay, super thank you. We truly, deeply appreciate it. But if wala, hindi kami magagalit sa mga magulang.”
Dina then shared her own perspective as a parent.
“Basta ako, yun ang stand ko. Kung anong meron ako, maglalagay na ako ng (ipapamana) at saka ine-explain ko na sa iyo ito.”
Danica agreed, saying, “Saka nagbibigay ka ng mga suggestions, ‘Why don’t you do this?’”
Dina continued, “How to invest. Kasi, sa akin, there’s nothing more fulfilling for a parent than to see your children growing up the way you raised them, as far as discipline is concerned, values, beliefs, faith, and aside from that, to see them successful.”
Danica concluded by saying that one of the greatest things she and Oyo inherited from their parents was valuable financial wisdom.
“’O, kayo, ha, dapat kahit na privileged kayo, nakakakain kayo, I don’t pick money from trees.’ Ganoong hirit ni Mama na dapat matuto din kayo,” said Danica.
