It’s Showtime host Vice Ganda apologizes to the public after her joke drew public scrutiny for its insensitivity.
TV host and comedian Vice Ganda is known for her witty remarks and funny banter. However, just recently, their viewers and many people online scrutinized a particular joke that she threw during the It’s Showtime “Memerimar” skit.
Many people did not find it funny and criticized it. The issue quickly gained traction on social media, with some saying parts of the comedy segment appeared insensitive, offensive, colorist, and inappropriate for a noontime program.
Due to the attention it gained, Vice acknowledged the feedback and expressed gratitude to those who voiced their concerns. The comedian said the production team listened to the criticism and recognized the need to be more careful with the content they present on television.
As part of the skit, Vice Ganda sprayed water onto Johaira’s face before asking, “Anong nangyari sa ‘yo? Bakit nagputik ka?”
On top of everything, the superstar comedian apologized. The host admitted that while the show’s intention was never to offend anyone, they understand that some viewers were hurt by the portrayal in the skit. The comedian emphasized that everyone involved has learned from the incident and is committed to improving moving forward.
“Gusto lang namin ipaalam po sa inyo na the last thing we want is to displease you o hindi mapasaya ang aming madlang people. Kaya naman, ina-acknowledge po namin ang inyong sentimyento at humihingi po kami ng paumanhin sa inyo,” she said.
Vice assured the viewers that they have learned their lesson and will make use of this experience as a reminder to do better and be more careful moving forward.
“We will try to do better. Maraming maraming salamat po,” Vice ended.
The apology has since been widely shared online, with many viewers acknowledging Vice’s statement and hoping it marks a positive step toward more inclusive and responsible comedy on Philippine television.
