2 Omicron Cases in PH Detected by Authorities
OMICRON CASES IN PH – Here are some details about the first two (2) cases of this variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines.
Several countries across the globe have tightened their borders once again after a new variant of COVID-19 was detected in South Africa. The said variant that was named by the World Health Organization (WHO) “Omicron” was reported to be a “heavily mutated” variant of the virus.
WHO warned countries to prevent the entry and spread of the said variant as it may be more transmissible compared to the previously-identified variants of the virus. The authorities are observing the behavior of the virus.
Many countries are implementing travel bans now amid the threat of Omicron. One of these nations is the Philippines but the Department of Health (DOH) previously expressed that it is just a matter of time when a case of the said variant would be detected in the country.
Recently, the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed that two (2) Omicron cases in PH were detected. One of the patients is a returning overseas Filipino who arrived in the Philippines from Japan last December 1 via the Philippine Airlines Flight PR0427.
The 48-year-old patient was tested last December 5 and yielded positive results in December 7. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the patient was exhibiting colds and cough upon arrival in the Philippines but is now asymptomatic.
The other patient of the first two (2) Omicron cases in PH is a male Nigerian. The 37-year-old patient arrived in the country from Nigeria last November 30 via the Oman Air Flight WY 843. He got tested last December 6 and he yielded positive results the day after. He is asymptomatic.
DOH explained that the two (2) patients were immediately isolated. They are now locating the close contacts of the said two (2) Omicron cases in PH.
