The monkeys in Puerto Princesa, Palawan were suffering starvation due to the absence of tourists prompted by COVID-19 pandemic.

The coronavirus pandemic made a mark in the history after spreading in various region all around the world and affect millions of people. The virus infects millions of people and even took millions of lives worldwide.

The respiratory disease does not only after the public’s health but it also causes a great impact to the global economy. A lot of people were suffering poverty after losing their jobs due to the health crisis in the country.

The COVID-19 pandemic does not only causes starvation to humans but also to animals. Several monkeys in Puerto Princesa, Palawan that rely on food given by local and foreign tourists are suffering from starvation.

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park has banned tourists for almost two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About 300, 000 are visiting the tourist spot before the pandemic and the province is earning about P110 million.

The monkeys in the area were obviously hungry due to the absence of tourists in the province. Some of them gathered after hearing a visitor opening a snack and quickly grabbed foods. Several monkeys were even fighting each other just to get a food just to fill their empty stomachs.

Luckily, other species in the area can survive and were able to find their own food without relying from tourists.
