The Philippine National Police (PNP) has warned the public against the vote-buying scheme this upcoming 2022 elections that allegedly uses fake money.

Eleazar has already told the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) and other unit commanders to boost up their efforts in gathering information and executing operations, according to him. He went on to say that the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) would lend a hand in the fight against the scam.
“I also instructed the CIDG and other unit commanders to step up intelligence-gathering and operations, in coordination with the BSP, to ensure that those who benefit from this modus will not be given the opportunity to victimize our kababayans,” said Eleazar.
Individuals caught using counterfeit money in any transaction, Eleazar cautioned, could face imprisonment. The PNP head also urged members of the public to report any suspicious activity relating to the phony money fraud.
“Maaaring kulong ang sapitin ng sinomang magtatangkang gumamit ng pekeng pera sa anumang transaksyon. Agad ninyong idulog sa pinakamalapit na police station o kaya’y i-report sa ating PNP E-Sumbong platforms kung kayo ay nabiktima o napasahan ng counterfeit na pera para agad ay magawan namin ng kaukulang aksyon at mahuli ang gumagawa nito,” he added.
On October 25, the CIDG and BSP agents apprehended suspect Ivan Noval Luardo and confiscated a P88,000 counterfeit peso bill. They discovered 52 bogus P1,000 bills and 70 counterfeit P500 bills. Joseph Mercado Salas, 36, was discovered counterfeiting money worth P24,000 on October 19.
