Authorities Confiscate P4.7-M worth of Imported Vegetables in Tondo

The authorities have confiscated worth P4.7 million of imported vegetables at three stores in Carmen Planas Street, Tondo, Manila.

Over the past few decades, the Philippines are receiving imported food and non-food products from various regions all around the world. A lot of Filipino business tycoons and entrepreneurs are supporting imported products because of its quality.

However, the quality of some imported products have been decreasing throughout the years. Some of our countrymen and local entrepreneurs are encouraging the public to support local products.

Imported Vegetables

The Bureau of Customs have raided the markets along Carmen Planas Street, Tondo, Manila after receiving reports that the vendors are selling alleged smuggled  vegetables. The authorities seized numerous boxes of imported vegetables.

The bureau recovered boxes of imported carrots, broccoli, and other veggies such as onion, garlic and ginger. The asset pretends as buyer and visited the stores to check the products offered in the market.

The authorities found imported vegetables being sold in the market, which is quite different from the local products. They have also found imported carrots from China, which has attractive physical appearance.

Imported Vegetables

The confiscated imported products reached P4.7 million. The stall owners also failed to present the necessary documents such as import permit and tax payment for imported products during inspection.

The Department of Agriculture has warned the public regarding the purchase of imported crops and vegetables because of its possible risk to the body’s health. The agency explained that the imported products may contains harmful chemicals from pesticides and formalin contents.
