Pres. Duterte Seals Vice President Nomination by PDP-Laban
DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte signed the official nomination of PDP-Laban for vice president in the Election 2022.
The Election 2022 is coming near and many of those who intend to run for a specific position have already announced their bid. Political parties have also met and most have decided on who to support in the next race for local and national posts. The Commission on Election (COMELEC) will soon open its doors for the filing of candidacies.
The ruling party, PDP-Laban, is currently facing an internal conflict. It is divided into two (2) factions and one is the Cusi wing which nominated President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to run for vice president in the next election.
Previously, the 76-year-old President said that he is planning to retire from politics after his term as the Chief Executive expires in 2022. He wants to go home to Davao City.
The PDP-Laban Cusi wing was persistent in their belief that Pres. Duterte is a big help if he would still be a part of the government in the next six years. The statement of the President regarding his desire to retire only encouraged his party mates even more to give him time to reconsider it.
Recently, the members of the PDP-Laban Cusi wing met with regards to the Election 2022. They nominated the President for vice president in the next election. The Chief Executive accepted the nomination.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Duterte recently signed the official nomination of the PDP-Laban for vice president which confirms his bid. It is stated that the official day of his nomination was September 17.
PDP-Laban Secretary General Melvin Matibag expressed that there is no more reason for the President to withdraw his bid for vice president. According to him, their party is excited and happy that the Chief Executive listened to what the party wants. They are hoping that Senator Bong Go will also accept his nomination for president.
