Researchers Say NCR Plus Not Ready For MGCQ Implementation
NCR PLUS – According to OCTA Research Group, NCR Plus is not yet ready to be placed under a less-strict “MGCQ”.
Currently, provinces under the NCR Plus bubble are under a general community quarantine. Furthermore, the quarantine status would end in June 15. However, the GCQ status would remain with “lowered restrictions”.
Meanwhile, placing Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal, under a modified community general community quarantine would be ill-advised according to Prefessor Ranjit Rye.
During an interview with Super Radyo dzBB, Rye said the NCR Plus’ average number of COVID-19 cases remain at a staggering high at over a thousand cases per day. As such, he stated:
Ang posisyon namin sa OCTA, let’s look at the data first, tingnan muna natin by weekend, mukhang makakabigay [kami] ng posisyon. Pero kung ngayon gagawin ang desisyon ay hindi pa tayo nagka-qualify for MGCQ, that’s definite
However, he emphasized that during the past re-implementation of stricter quarantines within the NCR Plus bubble, recovery has improved. Still, due to reopening of the economy, recovery was at a slow rate.
On the other hand, key areas such as Zamboanga City, Iloilo, and Cagayan de Oro are still placed under a stricter modified enhanced community quarantine due to spikes in coronavirus infections.
