A new variant of COVID-19 was detected in India. Several countries set restrictions in the pursuit to prevent the entry of the said variant in their nation as part of the global fight against the pandemic.

However, the COVID-19 variant from India has reached the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the patient arrived from Oman last April 10. He quarantined in a hotel in the National Capital Region (NCR) and was cleared as “recovered” last April 26. Currently, the person is in Region XII

Based on the report, the other case was also an overseas Filipino worker (OFW). The person came from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and quarantined in a facility in Central Luzon. The said person was declared recovered last May 6 and is currently in Region V.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), 105 Filipinos who have travelled history to India have arrived in the Philippines before the travel restrictions were implemented but the two (2) travelers who tested positive for the Indian variant of coronavirus were not part of those.
