Bahay KuBOOKS Provide Free Book Reading to Residents of Guinobatan, Albay
Bahay KuBOOKS – A Nipa hut filled with academic books has opened at Barangay Bololo in Guinobatan, Albay for both students and parents.
Teacher Kimberly Oraye ng Bololo Elementary School called the project “KuBOOKS” because the building is just made up of “Nipa” or locally known as “Kubo” and it was filled with around 100 books and other reading materials.
Students, parents, and residents in the area could freely use the books and reading materials inside the humble building. The nipa hut has been donated by Family Obiasca to allow the residents to learn more.
Kimberly said that a grade 5 student identified as Angel is regularly borrowing books from the school. The young girl claims that she would read the books but ended up letting the other residents borrowed the books to read.
Oraye has been moved by the girl’s gesture and decided to display the books outside amid the coronavirus pandemic. She also revealed that most of the books came from donations of different groups and organizations.

“Dahil sa batang ‘yun, na-encourage ako na ilabas ang books lalo pa’t may pandemic, bawal naman pumunta pa sa school ang mga bata. And ‘yung mama ni Angel, siya na ‘yung kusang nagpahiram ng kubo para malagyan ng reading materials,” the teacher said.
