Old photo of Rabiya Mateo received negative comments
Newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2020 Rabiya Mateo received accusations that she is a “retokada” because of her high school yearbook photo.
A new queen in the world of pageantry in the Philippines was crowned on October 25, a beautiful lady representing Iloilo City. Pageant fans are delighted to welcome her, as well as former reigning queens.
However, a controversy stirred up confusion in a supposed celebration of beauty. Pageant veteran, Sandra Lemonon, who is also part of the competition, claimed that the result was “unfair”. She is demanding justice for what “happened” during the coronation night.
Miss Universe Philippines Organization National Director Shamcey Supsup appeared to have retaliated to the controversial posts of Sandra. She stressed that the true queen should know how to accept defeat. This was echoed by former MUP MJ Lastimosa.
Amid the controversy and the questions regarding her credibility to reign, Rabiya Mateo stressed that she really worked hard for the MUP pageant. However, in a previous article, the alleged “unfair” incident was pointed out and this favored Miss Iloilo.
In the middle of these accusations against Rabiya, another accusation surfaced. Based on the article from Abante, there were netizens who accused her of being “retokada”.
This came after her old photo surfaced online. It was from her high school yearbook and it was stated there that she was the First Honorable Mention, Best Communication, and Performer of the year.
Although what was written at the page dedicated to her was remarkable, it appeared that netizens noticed something different. It was the old photo Rabiya Mateo which is different from what her new photos are showing.
Abante columnist Dondon Sermino said that some people pointed out that she enhanced the features of her nose. He added that some noticed that when Rabiya was younger, she has a round face which is not obvious now.
However, according to the columnist, there is nothing wrong with this if ever it’s true because in other countries it has been a sort of norm to enhance the looks of a pageant candidate.
