MUP Official Stands By Win Of Iloilo’s Rabiya Mateo Amid Controversy
MUP – Miss Universe Philippines official Albert Andrada expressed his support for Iloilo’s Rabiya Mateo amid controversy.
On Sunday, October 25, Iloilo’s rep Rabiya Mateo was crowned as Miss Universe Philippines 2020. Sadly, her triumph at the prestigious beauty pageant came with several issues from her fellow contestants.
Taguig’s bet Sandra Lemonon posted a series of cryptic messages on her IG account yesterday. Lots of netizens pointed out that it must be related to the pageant.
The national director of MUP, Shamcey Supsup also posted on her IG Stories yesterday to say: “To bear defeat with dignity, to accept criticism with poise, to receive honors with humility – these are the marks of a true QUEEN.”
Miss Universe Philippines 2014 MJ Lastimosa echoed Shamcey’s statement. She Tweeted: “BBP2012 taught me my greatest pageant lesson in life. A true queen is someone who can accept defeat and rise above it. A crown doesn’t define us, we define it. This is not the end but only the beginning for our #MissUniversePhilippines girls. Congratulations everyone.”
Amid the controversy, MUP board director and the fashion designer who made Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s blue gown, Albert Andrada, expressed his support for the newly crowned Miss Universe Philippines Rabiya Mateo. He told ABS-CBN News on Monday that he and other MUP officials Jonas Gaffud and Shamcey Supsup have already moved on from the cheating issue.
“As of this time, we are standing by Rabiya Mateo as the first winner of Miss Universe Philippines. We are also grateful to our sponsors, stakeholders and supporters who sustained us throughout the holding of the first edition of Miss Universe Philippines franchise, amid the limitations of the pandemic,” he said.
According to the report, Albert Andrada also laughed at the rumors that Rabiya Mateo was provided with questions in the grand finals. He said the finalists were held inside a bus before they get out on stage. He also thanked MJ Lastimosa for backing up the first edition of the pageant.
“To think that she comes from another beauty camp, Kagandahang Flores, regarded as rival of Aces and Queens. This is a beautiful way to unite,” he said.
