Recent Scientific study shows that drugs used to regulate the level of cholesterol in the blood also reduce the risk of dangerous clots.

Records illustrate that heart attack or stroke which is caused by blood clot is considered one of the leading reasons of death in the world.

This new discovery was first released in the Journal “Blood” where researchers said that after they have conducted an experiment in mice, it has reduced the size and stability that blood clot will occur.

In United Kingdom, 32,000 people die every year due to blood clot. That’s why the British Heart Foundation is overwhelmed of this new discovery and said that this could lead to a more effective treatment in the future.

A study conducted by the University of Reading suggest that protein and LXR were among that contributes to the formation of Blood Clot.

Drug companies are now planning to use LXR; which is known for its benefit of controlling the level of cholesterol in the blood to discover new medicine.

Experiments on the mice conducted by the researchers show that drugs which affect LXR reduced the size and stability of growing clots.

“It’s really quite exciting, it could be a quite an important discovery” Professor Jon Gibbins said to the reporters.

He also explained that blood clotting is essential to prevent bleeding, but inappropriate clotting within the circulation, known as thrombosis will trigger heart attack or stroke.

“Such discovery will make way for the discovery of a more effective treatment against thrombosis” Mr. Gibbins continued.

Drugs that are used to prevent clotting and lower down cholesterol are important to reduce the chance of heart attack but Professor Jeremy Pearson said that it is not always effective depending on the status or condition of the person because of the risk of side effects.
