Philippines Considers Army Reservists With Medical Training For COVID Fight
ARMY RESERVISTS – The Philippines considers army reservist with a background in medicine to assist the government in its fight against COVID-19.
Recently, the medical community pleaded to President Duterte for a “time out” as hospitals are being overwhelmed with COVID-19 patients. As a response, Duterte imposed a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine on Metro Manila and four nearby provinces.
Meanwhile, Malacañang said that in order to give doctors and medical workers a “time out” they would hire additional frontliners to aid in the fight. Among the potential candidates were army reservists with medical training.
According to a report from ABS-CBN, defense secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the army could complete its estimated salary needed for the 380 medical workers. Meanwhile, 3,000 medical aides and technicians would also be included in their recruitment for the COVID-19 response.
As per the report, Lorenzana said:
Kung matutuloy iyong ating mobilization , then we can employ these in Metro Manila especially and other areas that have high incidence of COVID infection.
Earlier, Lorenzana also said that Metro Manila would be ready to go back into a general community quarantine (GCQ) after the “time out”. He explained that as the Philippines lowered the daily infection count from 6,000 to 3,000, Metro Manila would be ready to lower the restriction so the economy and residents could recover.
We cannot continue with the MECQ kasi nga alam na natin kung nasaan iyong areas na may infection. Iyon ang tutukan natin so that the others can go to work
