Meteorologist warns government about coronavirus disease fight if rainy season starts.
CORONAVIRUS DISEASE – GMA’s resident meteorologist says something about COVID-19 crisis as rainy season is soon approaching.
First recorded from Wuhan in China, Coronavirus Disease 2019 or also called as COVID-19 has become pandemic and now infected millions of people globally. However, due to the lockdown because of this virus, since March 16 in the Philippines, the surroundings has become clearer.

This is because factories have suspended operations and smoke from cars also reduced because people are not allowed to go out. All of these and among other human activities, as much as we are all aware of, greatly contributes to pollution, and at current times, lessened activities has had positive result in the environment.
But for GMA Network’s resident meteorologist, this is just temporary for as soon as the crisis is over, everything will get back to normal. Pollutants have been reduced but it did not totally solved the climate change.
“Ito ay pansamantala lamang, dahil sa dami at tagal na ng pagbubuga natin ng usok at iba pang greenhouse gases (GHG) sa kalawakan [atmosphere] ay nagkaroon na ito ng epekto sa global climate system,” he said.

And as the virus had an outbreak in the country during summer where sun’s emitting too much heat, we can accordingly say that we are still lucky. This is because there are studies which have shown that the sun’s heat can possibly kill the virus which can stay in certain surfaces and air for several hours.
Also, increasing of temperature and humidity is “less favorable” to the virus. This is which is why if the rainy season arrives, it could cause problems as we face this crisis.
According to weather bureau Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the country will experience a normal number of tropical cyclones this year which is at 20. And there is always a possibility that a super typhoon will develop.
“Dapat na paghandaan ng mga lokal na pamahalaan [kasama na ang national government] ang pagdating ng mga bagyo sa gitna ng pakikipaglaban natin sa COVID-19,” the meteorologist further indicated based on PEP’s report as there is no vaccine and treatment yet for this viral disease.
