Marikina Mayor Weighs On Duque Issue With Senators
MARIKINA MAYOR ON DUQUE ISSUE – Recently, several Senators have signed a resolution calling for the resignation of Health Secretary Francisco Duque.
Senators have alleged that Duque had lacked leadership and initiative during the coronavirus crisis. Additionally, veteran journalist Arnold Clavio exposed a hospital for allegedly not counting COVID-19 deaths.
Clavio showed messages from a frontliner that said they were being ordered to not include fatalities caused by the coronavirus. However, the DOH and Duque quickly denied these claims.
With regard to Duque’s resignation, President Rodrigo Duterte announced that Duque would be staying. Meanwhile, Marikina Mayor Marcy Teodoro said there was a strong basis on the Senator’s call for Duque’s resignation.
Teodoro admitted that the Philippines government is not perfect, especially in these times of crisis. However, the Mayor emphasized that all problems have a solution that Duque should have done earlier.
The Mayor cited problems within their city government regarding Testing Centers. Teodoro stated that if the DOH had agreed to launch the Testing Centers, the number of positive cases wouldn’t be this large. Moreover, the government could’ve made a quicker solution to the problem.
Additionally, he emphasized that if Duque hadn’t downplayed the virus, we wouldn’t be in this situation. Afterward, he said that if the government and the DOH worked together earlier for a solution we would not be in this situation.
According to a report from RMN, the mayor stated that the Senators have thought thoroughly about their decision to call for the Health Secretary’s resignation.
Currently, the Philippines had the highest number of COVID-19 cases in among all ASEAN countries. Furthermore, the least amount of recoveries.
