Here are some customs and traditions of China that you might need to know and understand first before visiting this particular Asian country.

People’s Republic of China is known as the most populated country in the world. But also, this country is also one of those rich in history and culture. Now, before visiting this Asian country, here are some of things you probably don’t know yet.

  • PDA is prohibited. This is such a not sight to see for Chinese. Never touch a person of the opposite sex.
  • As a sign of respect, the eldest must always come first over anything. You should be polite to older people and address them by their surnames preceded by Mister or Madam.
  • If invited by a Chinese friend to go out, expect that you will be eating for free. The host will always pay the bill and in restaurants, it is offensive to leave a tip.
  • Always leave your shows outside in any Chinese household.
  • The chop sticks rules: don’t lick or drum it, putting them straight up to your rice is a bad luck, and put it down while making gestures.
  • Take a bit of every single dish prepared for you but don’t leave a very clean plate as the host will think he haven’t ordered enough or too many left overs as they will think that you did not like the food.
  • Clocks, umbrellas, scissors, knives (or anything else related to cutting) or anything comes in four (4) are not really good ideas to give as present to a Chines.
