Young Kid Passed Away Due To Suspected Meningococcemia

The province health officials of Ternate town in Cavite reported that 4-year-old toddler died due to suspected meningococcemia.

On Friday (September 13, 2019), the provincial health officer Dr. Nelson Soriano said that a young boy in Ternate, Cavite died after showing few signs and symptoms of meningococcemia.

Soriano said that the kid suffered from high fever and weakness, which is some symptoms of meningococcemia. He also administered prophylaxis to the victim’s family and to people who have a close contact with him to prevent the spread of the bacteria.

The young boy was initially brought to the Cavite Municipal Hospital and eventually transferred to the San Lorenzo Ruiz Hospital in Naic town. Unfortunately, the child passed away on Thursday morning (September 12).

Several health personnel also took samples of the victim’s cerebrospinal fluid and submitted it to Research Institute for Tropical Medicine in Muntinlupa City for laboratory tests.

The provincial health officer explained that meningococcemia is treatable with antibiotics and could only transmit through close lengthy contact such as saliva. It could not be passed through casual contact such breathing.

The health authorities also informed the public not to spread health care, because the child’s disease is yet to be confirmed through laboratory tests.
