BLESSED VIRGIN MARY – The nativity or the birth of Blessed Virgin Mary is one of the Christian feast days celebrated all around the world. The Catholic Church and the devotees usually celebrate the feast every September 8.
Mary, the mother of Jesus plays a very important role in the Bible for giving birth to the ‘Messiah’ who offered his life for the salvation of mankind. Christians believe that Mary was conceived without sin.
The birth of the Virgin Mary has not been recorded in modern canon of scripture but the devotion to her innocence is celebrated in many cultures worldwide. Catholics commemorate the feast days of the Blessed Virgin.
The feast might have originated in Syria or Palestine in the sixth century and the earliest document commemorating the feast comes from a hymn written during that time.
Mother Mary is known as the faithful believer of God and has been chosen to carry Jesus Christ who was born to save the people from eternal torment and to give them eternal life if they would repent their sins and turn away from their wicked ways.
The desire of the Catholic believers and devotees in commemorating the nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary also prompted different nations to declare her birthdate as a special non-working holiday.
Last week, President Rodrigo Duterte has declared September 8 of every year as a special non-working holiday to allow the Filipino people to commemorate the birth of the Virgin Mary.
