Giant Catfish Found in Pasig River
A giant catfish or locally known as “Hito” weighing more than 10 kilograms has been found by the local fisherfolks in Pasig River.
Over the past few years, the appearance of different types of sea creatures in shallow waters has been one of the most discussed topics online.
Deep-sea creatures were also linked to natural calamities and disasters after the consecutive earthquakes that struck the Philippines after the appearance of oarfish in shallow waters.
Aside from oarfish, strange marine creatures also start to appear in coastal areas.
A Facebook user named Jose Antonio “Pepeton E. Goitia” shared the photos of a ‘Monster Hito’ caught in Pasig River.
The Pasig River Rehabilitation Commission (PRRC) executive director Jose Antonio Goitia said that the giant Hito is weighing over 10 to 15 kilograms.
In the previous reports, huge tilapia have reportedly been caught from the Pasig River and waterway.
PRRC is also hoping that the bountiful catch from the river would serve as an inspiration to the resident to protect Pasig River.
Here is the full post:
“Happy anglers at Guadalupe, Pasig River sent me these pictures of their huge catch- a catfish weighing 10 to 15 kilos.
I told them this is good news and I wish them more bountiful catch from the river, but I also had to caution them that the safety of eating fish from the Pasig River remains under study.
Let this good news and the past stories of huge tilapias caught from the Pasig River and its esteros be our inspiration to be more active in protecting the Pasig River.
Our joint efforts will definitely result to making the Pasig River habitable for more species of fish.”
