Unusual Oarfish Found Alive, People Believe That They Are Harbingers of Natural Disasters

Two unusual oarfish that were believed to be harbingers of earthquakes and tsunamis have been found alive in Okinawa, Japan.

Japanese fishermen found two rare oarfish along the island’s southwest Toya port in the island of Okinawa, Japan.

One of the oarfish has a length of 12 feet while the other one is 13 feet long and were both caught alive in nets.

Unusual Oarfish

Unfortunate, one oarfish died after loaded into ship and the other one also passed away after arriving on land.

“The two oarfish were swimming vigorously in the nets. They looked mysterious and beautiful,” Satomi Higa of the Yomitan’s fisheries cooperative association said.

The appearance of deep-sea creatures in shallow water was believed to be an indicator of earthquakes and tsunamis.

The oarfish or known as “Ryugu no tsukai” in Japanese has been allegedly found along Japan’s coastline before the Fukushima earthquake and horrible tsunami in 2011.
