Itbayat, Batanes Hit by Earthquake with 6.4 Magnitude Today
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 6.4 magnitude quake in Itbayat, Batanes today, July 27, 2019.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Batanes. At 07:38 am today, July 27, 2019, Itbayat, Batanes was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Batanes was located at 20.82°North, 121.67°East – 019 km North 81° West of Itbayat. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 043 kilometers.
According to Phivolcs, Intensity IV was felt in Basco, Batanes. There are expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks.
