Passengers Are Advised By NAIA To Stay Cautious In Cases Of Theft this Holiday Season
NAIA – The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) expects a huge increase of domestic and international passengers at NAIA this December.
Ed Monreal, MIAA general manager, emphasized the stream of Overseas Filipino Workers and tourists who wish to visit and spend their vacation in the country this month.
That being said, MIAA reminded the travelers to stay vigilant and look out against pickpocketers, thieves, swinders, and the like who will take advantage of the situation.
Monreal said that they recently caught a snatcher who managed to snatch an amount worth of ₱120,000; and another who snatched ₱250,000 worth of cash. He further added that the authorities are on guard to maintain peace and order as well as passenger safety within the premises of the airport.
An article in UNTV News states that amidst all the safety protocols, Monreal said that it is inevitable that criminals will take advantage of the surge of passengers and work with other criminals to fool the upcoming balikbayans.
That being said, Monreal advised them to not entertain people they do not know as there is a chance that they will earn the passengers’ trust and take their belongings without hassle. He further urge them to contact with their respective airline companies in case of loss of belongings.
As per the report, Monreal said if their belongings are lost or feel that their luggage is tampered with, they can report to the airlines ASAP. The airline staff will be right there upon arrival who can document these said cases. The handling of baggage is the responsibility of the airline representative, Monreal added.
Lastly, all baggage handlers in NAIA are now equipped with body cameras. The handlers are also advised not to wear clothes with pockets as well as personal pieces of jewelry.
