Fake Documents Use For New Scam Revealed By BSP
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) has warned the public to be aware against the new scam using fake documents allegedly issued by the central bank.
On Thursday (June 28, 2018), the central bank of the Philippines warned the public against the fraudsters who were using unscrupulous parties using fraudulent loan documents, deposit certificates, fund transfer documents or other commercial papers allegedly authorized by BSP officials.
BSP clarified that it does not release commercial documents like banking forms, fund transfer orders or certificates of deposit.
“Scammers claim such documents will facilitate financial transactions in favor of the recipients, in exchange for confidential personal or corporate information, and subject to fees or charges,” BSP said quoted by Inquirer.
The central bank explained that they only make deals with authorized counterparties and accredited institutions.
“[The BSP] deals only with authorized or accredited counterparties, mostly BSP-supervised institutions, duly recognized partners, and appropriately contracted suppliers or service providers,” the central bank added.
The public was also advised to be aware of fake documents containing a counterfeit logo, seal, and document formats offered by fraudsters pretending as BSP staff.
It also advised the consumer not to believe claims of unexpected monetary gain and immediately report any suspicious activities.
