Grandmother in Laoag City Ends Up in Jail Over Over Bomb JokeĀ
A grandmother who is planning a relaxing day at the mall in Laoag City ends up behind bars after a joke she made during a security inspection caused alarm.
According to authorities, the 64-year-old grandmother visited a local mall hoping to spend some time relaxing and enjoying her day. However, during a routine security check at the entrance, she allegedly told a security guard that her bag contained several bombs.
The remark immediately raised concern among mall personnel. Following security protocols, the guard quickly reported the statement to mall security officers and the police. Given the seriousness of any mention of explosives in public places, authorities responded to the situation without delay.

An inspection of the womanās bag later revealed that it contained only personal belongings and no dangerous items. Investigators learned that the statement was supposedly made as a joke and that there was never any actual threat.
Despite this, authorities explained that bomb jokes are treated seriously because they can create panic, disrupt public safety operations, and cause fear among people in crowded areas. Even when there is no real danger, such comments can lead to emergency responses that require time and resources from security personnel and law enforcement officers.
As a result, the grandmother was brought to the police station for proper investigation. She now faces a complaint for allegedly violating Presidential Decree No. 1727, also known as the Anti-Bomb Joke Law, which prohibits making false statements or jokes involving bombs and explosive devices.
Police once again reminded the public to avoid making bomb-related jokes in airports, malls, terminals, schools, and other public places. Authorities stressed that such remarksĀ canĀ cause unnecessary fear and may result in legal consequences, regardless of the speakerās intentions.Ā
