Tricycle Driver Denies Accusation of Overcharging Passenger
A tricycle driver has denied accusations that he charged an excessive fare, following a viral complaint from a passenger.
On Thursday (March 26, 2026), the driver, identified as Mitchel Robelo, personally went to a local news station to share his side of the story. He explained that the situation was misunderstood and that he never demanded a fare of P100, as claimed.
According to Robelo, the passenger suddenly boarded his tricycle and told him she wanted to go to the Ceres Terminal. He said he immediately noted that the destination was quite far. The passenger then offered P30 as payment, which he felt was too low for the distance.

He admitted that he asked the passenger to add a little more to the fare, hoping they could reach a fair agreement. However, they were not able to settle on a price.
During the exchange, Robelo said he mentioned that the passenger was lucky to have ridden with him, as other drivers might charge as much as P100 for the same trip.
The driver stressed that his statement was taken out of context and that he did not actually demand that amount. He expressed concern over how the issue affected him, especially after the story went viral online.

The issue emphasizes the common challenges faced by both drivers and passengers when it comes to fare agreements, especially in areas where standard rates are not always clear.
Robelo also sent a message to the passenger, urging her to stand by her statements. He shared that the situation has already affected his reputation and daily livelihood, making it important for him to clarify his side of the story.
