Farmer & Carabao Die After Electrocution in Ormoc City
A 67-year-old farmer and his carabao lost their lives after being electrocuted at Barangay Bantigue in Ormoc City.
Electrocution is a serious injury or death caused by electric shock. It happens when a person or animal comes into contact with electricity, especially from a live wire, faulty appliance, or high-voltage source.
On Wednesday (February 25, 2026), authorities identified the victim as Turning, a resident of Barangay Bantigue. He was found lifeless near a grazing area where he had earlier brought his carabao.

The incident left the small community in shock, as many residents knew the farmer as a hardworking and simple man who depended on farming for his daily needs.
Based on the initial investigation, Turning had left his carabao tied in a pasture. It was later discovered that the rope attached to the animal may have come into contact with a live electrical wire.
The wire was reportedly connected to a submersible water pump installed by the barangay near the river. Because the wire was still live, electricity flowed through it and electrocuted the carabao.

When the farmer realized something was wrong, he rushed to check on his animal. In an attempt to save his carabao, he also came into contact with the live wire. He was electrocuted and died at the scene alongside his animal.
Police officers responded to the area and requested a full crime scene investigation by the Scene of the Crime Operatives to better understand what happened. However, the victim’s son later asked to cancel the request.
The farmer’s death reminds the public of the dangers of exposed electrical connections, especially in open areas like farms and riverbanks. Residents are now calling for better safety measures to prevent similar accidents in the future.
