TV Patrol anchors had a closing banter about the announcement of VP Sara Duterte
The early announcement of Vice President Sara Duterte that she will run for president in the 2028 elections earned a reaction from Kapamilya news anchors Karen Davila and Alvin Elchico.
On Wednesday, February 18, 2025, VP Sara held a media conference. Wearing a black outfit, she faced the reporters from various media entities with her written speech.
The next presidential elections will be two years from now, but the Vice President decided to announce her political plan as early as this time. She is the first politician to announce her presidential aspirations.
Filipinos on the internet had various reactions to this. For VP Sara Duterte’s allies, she did the right thing. Senator Robin Padilla said that the daughter of former President Rodrigo Duterte will be his president in the 2028 elections, while Sen. Imee Marcos will be his vice president.
Sen. Imee, the older sister of President Bongbong Marcos, also had a positive response to VP Sara’s declaration. The female senator said that people will have hope because of this.
During the Wednesday episode of the Kapamilya primetime news program TV Patrol, the news anchors shared their thoughts on VP Sara’s early announcement.
As the anchors would have their closing banter at the end of the news program, Alvin Elchico said that, for him, the early declaration made by the Vice President might not be favorable for her.
“Ang agang magdeklara ni Vice President Sara. Yun naman ang pinag-usapan buon araw kasi maaga naman talaga siyang magdeklara pero may mga history na kasi na maraming maagang nagdeklara na hindi nagtagumpay,” the male news anchor said.
Veteran broadcaster Karen Davila said that this could be a “minus” for the Vice President. However, she pointed out that some experts theorized that it was a strategic move, especially regarding the impeachment complaint.
Meanwhile, the Malacanang Palace reacted to this presidential aspiration of VP Sara Duterte with “Good luck.”
