ICI Chairman Andres Reyes on Flood Control Issue: ‘Justice Will Not Be Delayed This Time’

ICI – Independent Commission for Infrastructure chairman Andres Reyes Jr. spoke on the flood control issue in the Philippines.

Amid the flood control issue in the Philippines, President Bongbong Marcos ordered an independent commission to investigate the issue to be formed. The Chief Executive’s order led to the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure.

More popularly known as the ICI, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure is a three-member body led by former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes Jr. It has already conducted several closed-door hearings that invited some officials of the government.

Amid the allegations that the government’s response on the flood control issue is allegedly slow, Marcos Jr. recently claimed that they are really ensuring the conviction of the flood control culprits. He stressed that weak charges might result to the acquittal of the accused.

Recently, ICI chairman Andres Reyes Jr. spoke on the flood control investigation. Based on a post of News5 on social media, Reyes claimed that ‘justice will not be delayed this time’. He stressed that the commission continues to investigate for the filing of charges against the culprits of the flood control issue.

The ICI recently suggested the filing of charges against Zaldy Co and senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva among others. The commission told the Office of the Ombudsman that they may be charged over direct or indirect bribery, graft, and corruption.

“Politicians and government officials will be investigated and charged by credible evidence,” Reyes said.

Furthermore, based on the post, the ICI Chairman added that those who will be found responsible in the flood control corruption in the country will face the consequences of their actions and will be held accountable under the rule of law.

The Independent Commission for Infrastructure have invited several government officials to the investigation. Former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and Senator Chiz Escudero are among those who appeared before the commission for the investigation.

Amid the public clamor, the ICI agreed to livestream the flood control probe next month but they will set the rules first. However, they refused to release the recordings of the previous inquiries.
