Malacañang Palace Declares January 23 as Non-Working Day in Bulacan
WALANG PASOK – Malacañang Palace has officially declared January 23, 2025, as a special non-working day for the province of Bulacan.
The decision was made to commemorate the anniversary of the First Philippine Republic, which was inaugurated at the historic Barasoain Church in Malolos City.
The declaration, outlined in Proclamation No. 769 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, emphasizes the importance of giving Bulacan residents the chance to take part in the celebration.
The occasion shows the historical significance of January 23, a date already recognized nationwide as Araw ng Republikang Filipino 1899, based on Presidential Proclamation 533 issued in 2013.
The event marks the establishment of the Malolos Republic, a momentous occasion where the Philippines was declared an independent nation and became Asia’s first republic.
”It is but fitting and proper that the people of the province of Bulacan be given full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration,” the Proclamation read.
The National Historical Commission of the Philippines notes that this milestone symbolizes the Filipinos’ fight for sovereignty and national identity.
In acknowledgment of this historical achievement, President Marcos approved Proclamation No. 769, ensuring that Bulacan residents have the opportunity to celebrate and honor this event.
Declaring a non-working day emphasizes the importance of this date in shaping Philippine history and allows the province to reflect on its proud heritage.
As January 23 approaches, the province of Bulacan is set to honor its role in history with activities commemorating the First Philippine Republic’s legacy. The recognition serves as a reminder of the courage and determination of the nation’s early leaders in their quest for independence.
