2 House Lawmakers Speak on Impeachment Complaint Filed vs. VP Sara Duterte
House lawmakers said that the lower chamber will process the impeachment complaint filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
The impeachment complaint versus Vice Pres. Sara Duterte gained different reactions from the ordinary citizens as well as some politicians. It was filed by 16 individuals with some of them coming from different civil society groups.
Kiko Aquino Dee, the grandson of the late former Senator Ninoy Aquino, was one of those who filed the impeachment complaint against Duterte. According to Kiko, he is not satisfied with how the budget of the offices led by the VP was discussed.
The grandson of Ninoy also stressed confusion on student seminars being stated under the confidential funds of the education department when Duterte was the DepEd chief. Previously, he also spoke and requested that their family will not be mentioned in the feud between Marcos and Duterte.
Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has accused the Marcos family of allegedly masterminding the death of Ninoy Aquino. It followed the controversial remarks that seemingly sparked threats on the lives of Pres. Bongbong Marcos, First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Reportedly, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte is set to face a second impeachment complaint. Amid the Vice President’s tirades against him, Pres. Bongbong Marcos previously expressed his disagreement on an impeachment plan against Duterte.
According to Marcos Jr., it will not benefit a single Filipino and it will only tie up the House of Representatives and the Senate. He admitted that he sent a message conveying his opinion on the matter.
Based on a recent report on GMA News, two (2) House lawmakers said that the lower chamber will process the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte as it is part of the mandate of the House of Representatives. According to Bataan 1st District Representative Geraldine Roman, the lower chamber has “no choice”.
“From a purely Constitutional point-of-view, bahagi ito ng mandato ng Kongreso. Kung mayroong nag-file ng impeachment complaint, we have no choice but to process the entire complaint,” Roman said.
According to the Bataan Representative, the impeachment complaint has to go through the entire process “from the filing to the referral to the Justice Committee, to the deliberations, the voting, and if approved, the referral to the Senate”.
House Deputy Majority Leader and Tingog party list Rep. Jude Acidre reiterated the same stand with Roman that the House lawmakers are mandated to act on an impeachment complaint filed with the lower chamber.
Based on the report, both House lawmakers worry over the timeline of the processing of the impeachment complaint filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. Meanwhile, Roman stressed that the processing and deliberations will be “transparent”.
