NBI issues new subpoena vs VP Sara Duterte amid the impeachment complaint.
The first impeachment complaint against VP Sara Duterte was filed and recently, the NBI issued a new subpoena.
A 50-page impeachment complaint crafted by religious leaders, sectoral representatives, and families of drug war victims was endorsed to the House of Representatives’ Office of the Secretary General on Monday afternoon. The endorsement was done by Akbayan party-list Rep. Percival Cendaña.
There were five grounds cited for impeachment such as culpable violation of the constitution, graft and corruption, bribery, betrayal of public trust, and other high crimes.
As much as we all know, talks about impeachment were ignited following the issues at the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and the Department of Education (DepEd). Both are her offices and these issues were uncovered by the House Committee On Good Government and Public Accountability.
The panel discovered the possible irregularities in the acknowledgment receipts (ARs) for OVP and DepEd’s confidential fund expenses. For one in the OVP, one of the ARs indicated the name Mary Grace Piattos and Koko Villamin also received CFs both from DepEd and OVP but used different signatures.
Following the impeachment complaint, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Monday served a new subpoena for the vice president to clear the alleged threats she made to some of the leaders of the country.
To recall, Duterte made remarks threatening the lives of President Bongbong Marcos and First Lady Liza Marcos. She also threatened House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
Duterte was already summoned last week for the same issue but failed to appear and asked for a new schedule. Meanwhile, regarding the “threat” against the life of the vice president, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has not received anything yet that is “credible”.
But since she is holding the second highest position in the country, they accept that it is inherent and that they are willing to provide security if requested.
