A motorist in Barangay Libjo, Batangas City, tragically lost his life after accidentally hitting a stray dog on the road.

The 39-year-old victim was on his way to work at a convenience store when a stray dog suddenly crossed the road. The collision caused him to lose control of his motorcycle, which led to him being thrown onto the street, according to the local police.

Despite wearing a helmet and proper clothing, he suffered fatal injuries and did not survive the accident. The dog involved in the crash was not found after the incident.

“Siya po ay tumilapon kasama ang motor niya. Siya po ay naka-helmet, maayos ang pananamit so, wala po siyang sign na under influence of liquor,” Batangas Component City Police Station Public Information Office chief PLT. Sharen Ama said.

The local officials in Barangay Libjo have announced plans to increase their efforts in managing stray dogs in the area. They aim to capture all stray dogs as part of their commitment to public safety and compliance with the Anti-Rabies Act of 2007, which seeks to address the issue of strays.

Barangay Chairman Joel Chavez stated that there will be a more aggressive approach to capturing stray dogs, with scheduled operations to address the problem both day and night. He emphasized the importance of preventing similar accidents in the future and pledged to work with dog owners to ensure that all pets are properly cared for.

“Every sitio, may schedule kami na talagang hulihin lahat ang mga ligaw na aso. Walang makakahingi sa akin kahit na sino. Hindi po kami titigil lalo na ngayon po at may nangyari, asahan po ninyo, araw at gabi, manghuhuli na kami ng aso ngayon,” Chavez said.
