Phivolcs Releases Bulletin about the Earthquake Today in Surigao del Sur, December 23, 2023

EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Surigao del Sur today, Saturday, December 23, 2023.

Following the 4.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Sarangani a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the area. According to the agency, the quake that hit Surigao del Sur today had a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake today that struck Surigao del Sur, Saturday, December 23, 2023, at 08:49 p.m., was tectonic in origin.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Sur was located at 08.59°North, 126.60°East – 038 km North 49° East of Hinatuan. It had a depth of focus of 030 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages are not expected from the said quake as well as aftershocks. According to the quake-recording agency, no intensity was recorded at the epicenter of the quake as well as the nearby areas. No instrumental intensity was recorded as well.
