Detainee Jad Dera, 6 NBI Personnel Charged After Arrested Due to “Night Out”
Detainee Jose Adrian “Jad” Dera and several National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) personnel were apprehended as they returned from a supposed night out.
Dera and six NBI security officers were charged after being caught for leaving the NBI detention facility without permission. Dera was charged with corrupting public officials under Article 212 of the Revised Penal Code (RPC) on Tuesday night after reportedly bribing guards to allow him to leave the detention center for four hours.
Based on the report, the six NBI guards stated above were charged with violating the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act and Infidelity in the Custody of Prisoners. Mico Clavano, a spokesperson for the Department of Justice, quickly pledged that everyone involved in the case will be fired.
According to Clavano, Dera was confirmed to have fled the NBI prison center with six members of the agency’s Security Division. The NBI apprehended Dera and six guards inside the NBI van on their way back to the agency’s headquarters.
“I just want to emphasize that this incident has revealed that there is this connivance between certain people in detention and those in the NBI that allow for them to temporarily go out of the detention center and come back in,” said Clavano.
“So, this would not have happened if there was no connivance. So we are hell bent on making heads roll for this incident. This is unacceptable and we will file the necessary disciplinary actions and any other cases that this may warrant,” said the official.
Dera, who claims to be a PNP asset, was originally embroiled in the purported scheme to commit illegal trade with imprisoned drug lords at the New Bilibid Prison under the tenure of Justice Secretary Leila de Lima. In 2019, he was caught in Angeles City.
