Netizen Raises Concern Over Honor Students’ Knowledge of Government Agencies

A male netizen became concerned after some honor students were reportedly unable to identify the acronyms of government executive agencies.

Recently, Niño Belen Socito, a Facebook user, shared his concern about the level of knowledge of some junior and senior high school honor students. The post quickly went viral and received various reactions online.

The concern started after Socito watched a segment from a noontime show where students were asked to guess the meaning of common acronyms of government executive agencies. The participants were introduced as honor students from both junior and senior high school.

However, some of them struggled to answer even basic acronyms such as DPWH, DOT, DOF, DENR, and DOST.

For Niño, this was alarming. He felt that these were simple and common terms that students should already know. He pointed out that the issue was not about difficult questions, but about general awareness that should be part of everyday learning.

Some internet users agreed with his concern and said that it may be a sign of a deeper problem in the system. Others shared that access to information is now easier because of technology, yet it seems that understanding and retention of basic knowledge may be weaker among some students.

There were also mentions of past incidents where contestants could not recognize important national landmarks, adding to the growing concern about awareness of basic civic knowledge.

The discussion also raised questions about responsibility. Some wondered if the issue lies with teachers, the education system, or even the way students learn today. Others pointed out that being an honor student in the past required great effort, discipline, and long hours of study.

While the situation may not apply to all students, it has raised concern about education, learning, and the kind of knowledge that should be valued by the younger generation.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
