A business owner warned the public and fellow entrepreneurs about a new modus being used by scammers.

Recently, Calle Luna de Talisay, a Facebook page, shared the new scam tactic used by scammers to deceive business establishments. The post quickly went viral and received various reactions from the online community.

The caller introduced himself as Congressman Javi Benitez. During the call, the person asked if the store had a delivery service or a rider who could bring the order to the Mayor’s Office. The caller also requested the contact number of the rider who would deliver the food.

The store then contacted a rider from VC Rider to handle the delivery and gave the rider’s number to the caller who claimed to be the congressman.

While the rider was picking up the order from the store, the caller contacted the rider and later spoke with the cashier. The person then asked for GCash worth P3,000 and instructed the rider to send the money to the caller’s number.

When the rider finally arrived at the Talisay City Hall to deliver the order, it was confirmed that the real Congressman Javi Benitez was not there and had no knowledge of the transaction. After that, the caller could no longer be contacted.

The business owner shared the story to warn others to be more careful when receiving similar calls. The caller reportedly sounded very convincing and even spoke in a way that closely resembled the real congressman, making it difficult to suspect that it was a scam.

Many people online reacted to the post, reminding business owners to always verify orders and requests before sending money or personal details.
