Hidilyn Diaz Free Fuel Lasted Only Two Years, Phoenix Makes Clarification

Here are some clarifications about the free fuel for Hidilyn Diaz after winning gold in the Olympics.

HIDILYN DIAZ FREE FUEL – Noel Ferrer and the fuel company involved released their respective statements regarding the matter.

Hidilyn Diaz bagged a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, ruling in the women’s 55 kg weight class in weightlifting. With the pride that she brought to the country, many companies vowed to give her incentives, and that included free fuel for life from Siklab Atleta Sports Foundation head and Phoenix Petroleum chair Dennis Uy.

This was resurfaced recently by many people online; however, as per Diaz’s manager, this pledge has not come to fruition.

“Hidilyn told me that she received fuel support for the first two years after her win. Thanks, but to be accurate, it wasn’t for a lifetime,” Ferrer said in his statement published on social media.

In a statement, Ferrer explained that the promise of lifetime fuel was presented without conditions at the time it was announced. Following Ferrer’s remarks, Phoenix Petroleum released a statement for clarification.

The fuel company explained that the fuel support arrangement could no longer continue after Diaz reportedly engaged with another fuel brand.

“In March 2022, Ms. Diaz received her second year of fuel donation from us. Upon acknowledging receipt, she was asked if she could share about the donation online, she declined, citing that she recently entered into a contract with another petroleum company,” the statement read.

She then stopped communicating with them, and because of this, the company could no longer fulfill its promised benefit towards Diaz. The oil company further questioned “misleading narratives” and “unfair criticism” directed at them. They have pledged in good faith, but despite this, they were “being unjustly vilified.”
