The issues between Pres. Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte are no secret to the Filipino people. The two highest officials in the government formed a powerful tandem that swept off votes during the 2022 Elections.

However, in 2024, the Filipinos began to notice the souring ties between the President and the Vice President after the latter resigned from her post as the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd). She also left the Marcos Jr. Cabinet.
According to the Vice President, her decision to leave the helm of the education department includes both personal and work reasons. The gap between her and Marcos Jr. was undeniably even widened by the turn of events that led her father, former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte, to the custody of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte announced that she will run for president in 2028. It earned different reactions from the people. Amid the varying reactions, Malacañang claimed that the announcement of the Vice President will not affect Pres. Bongbong Marcos who is busy working for the country’s progress.

Marcos Jr. recently had a meeting with Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo for the Oplan Kontra Baha. Amid the speculations, both the President and the Naga City Mayor that they talked about politics.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte went emotional as she reflected on her decision to run for vice president in 2022. At a conference in Davao City, she claimed that she was thinking about what might have happened if she remained as mayor of Davao.
“Naisip ko kanina kung ano kaya ang mangyayari kung tumakbo na lang akong mayor at hindi ko na tinuloy ang pagtakbo ko bilang vice president,” the Vice President said.

Recently, Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro reacted to the recent emotional remarks of Vice Pres. Sara Duterte. According to News5, the Palace official claimed that she agrees with the statement of the Vice President that she should have just remained as mayor of Davao.
“At patungkol sa pagtakbo niya na kung sana ay nanatili na lamang siyang mayor sa Davao City, muli, sumasang-ayon tayo sa kanyang tinuran. Mas maganda po nga sana kung nanatili na lamang siyang mayor sa Davao City at nahalal natin ang isang bise presidente na tutulong sana sa ating Pangulo… isang bise presidente na magtatrabaho, mag-aaksyon at hindi bakasyon at hindi puro paninira ang gagawin sa ating Pangulo,” the Malacañang official said.
Atty. Claire Castro further claimed that the Philippines may alleged be more progressive if the elected vice president works together with Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Based on the post, she cited the common line about regrets coming in the end.
“Mas umunlad sana or mas uunlad pa, maliban sa ginagawa ng Pangulo ngayon, at kapag siya’y may katuwang para sa pag-unlad ng bansa, mas naging mainam sana. Pero sabi nga natin, nasa huli ang pagsisisi,” the Malacañang Usec. added.
