Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo assured that no matters about politics will be brought up in her meeting with President Bongbong Marcos.
On Thursday, Malacañang announced that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will travel to Naga on Saturday to inspect his administration’s “Oplan Kontra Baha” program and meet with his two-time rival, former Vice President Leni Robredo. The latter now serves as the city’s mayor.
Will the talks go beyond the flood control matters?
In an interview, Robredo was asked about this, and she expressed certainty that no talks about politics will be discussed during the meeting with the president. According to Darlene Cay’s report on “24 Oras,” Robredo said that her focus is entirely on the problems of her city.
“Ako, sigurado akong hindi siya magbi-bring up ng politics kasi alam ko na trabaho ‘yung sadya niya dito,” Robredo said, expressing confidence that the president is there mainly for work matters.
“Hindi ’to pulitika, at saka ang layo pa ng election. Hindi pa nga ako nagwa-one year sa puwesto ko, di pa umiinit yung upuan ko, tapos pulitika na agad… Magtrabaho muna tayo,” Robredo said.
To recall, talks about their future alliance surfaced online and spread after the announcement of their meeting scheduled on Saturday.
This meeting is reportedly about the implementation of Oplan Kontra Baha in Naga City, Camarines Sur. This is a part of the government’s flood mitigation measures.
Palace Press Officer Undersecretary Attorney Claire Castro also previously called for a stop to the political noise. She reminded the public not to get carried away by the imagination and instead focus on each person’s work so they won’t stray away from the objective.
“Tumigil muna ang lahat sa pamumulitika,” said Castro.
