Netizens Slam LTO Over Convenience Fee & Cashless Payment Policy

LTO Branch Earns Criticisms Over Convenience Fee & Cashless Payment Policy

Many netizens expressed anger and filed complaints against the Land Transportation Office for allegedly refusing to accept cash payments and charging a convenience fee.

Recently, the Facebook page ‘Average Pinoy Gamer’ shared a note claiming that an LTO branch no longer accepts cash and charges a convenience fee of P60 plus 2.24 percent of the total amount. The fee was also reportedly not shown on the official LTO receipt.

The issue quickly gained attention online, with people raising concerns about fairness and transparency.

Convenience Fee

The discussion started after a note showing that an LTO branch was requiring cashless payments only. Along with this policy, a convenience fee of more than sixty pesos plus a percentage of the total amount was being charged.

Many people were upset with the claim that this extra fee did not appear on the official LTO receipt, leaving customers confused about where the money was going.

The online community netizens shared their disappointment and anger. Some questioned why a government office funded by taxpayers would pass on additional fees to the public. Others pointed out that not everyone is comfortable or able to use digital wallets or cashless payment systems, especially senior citizens and people without access to online banking.

Several online users also expressed that the term convenience fee felt misleading. For them, the process did not feel convenient at all, especially when they were forced into a cashless system and had to pay extra just to complete a basic transaction.

Others felt that removing fixers should have made services simpler and cheaper, not more costly.
