Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos Speaks on Impeachment Complaint vs. PBBM
SANDRO MARCOS – The House Majority Leader vowed that the House of Representatives will not block any impeachment complaint even against his father, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Amid several issues and accusations against the President, an impeachment complaint was filed against Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. The Chief Executive is accused of alleged betrayal of public trust and several grounds were cited.
The alleged “surrender” of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte by the Philippine government to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands was cited as one of the grounds in the impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. The former President is detained under the custody of the foreign court for 10 months now.
Malacañang previously defended Marcos Jr. from accusations of alleged betrayal of public trust on the arrest and the transfer of custody of Duterte. According to the Palace, the President did not betray the people as the government only acted on the arrest in lieu of its commitment with the Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization).
The impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. also cited the flood control corruption accusations against the President. Former House Budget Appropriations Committee chairman Zaldy Co claimed that the President and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez allegedly received kickbacks.
Zaldy Co also claimed that Marcos Jr. allegedly ordered a P100-billion insertion in the 2025 national budget. Malacañang defended Marcos Jr. saying that Co allegedly wants the flood control probe to stop so he tagged the President in the corruption issue.
The illegal drug use accusation against Pres. Bongbong Marcos was also cited in the impeachment complaint against him. His very own sister, Senator Imee Marcos, claimed that PBBM is allegedly into illegal drug use ever since they were young.
Previously, following the filing of an impeachment complaint, a lawmaker claimed that presidential son and Ilocos Norte Congressman Sandro Marcos allegedly has “no choice” but to process the impeachment complaint against his father. He is currently the House Majority Leader. Recently, he spoke on the impeachment complaint against his dad.
Based on a report on Inquirer, House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos vowed that the House of Representatives will not block any impeachment complaint filed against his father, Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. He stressed that the chamber should hear any impeachment complaint that will be filed.
“Dapat dinggin ng Kamara ang anumang isasampang impeachment complaint, kahit pa ito ay laban sa aking ama,” the younger Marcos said.
Cong. Sandro Marcos further stressed that it is the duty of the chamber to act on any impeachment complaint filed against any impeachable official. Based on the report, House Majority Leader also expressed the duty of the Congress in the impeachment process.
“Tungkulin ng Kamara, sa ilalim ng Saligang Batas, na aksiyunan ang anumang impeachment complaint na ihahain laban sa sinumang impeachable official. May constitutional duty ang Congress to refer the impeachment complaint sa House Committee on Justice sa sandaling ito ay mailagay sa Order of Business at mabasa sa plenaryo,” Cong. Marcos said.
Recently, following the health scare against his father, Cong. Sandro Marcos drew laughter in front of a crowd as he represented his father and delivered the President’s speech.
