Sen. Risa Hontiveros Speaks on Impeachment Rap Filed against PBBM
RISA HONTIVEROS – The Senator spoke on the filing of an impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Pres. Bongbong Marcos is accused of allegedly betraying public trust due to several reasons. Recently, an impeachment complaint was filed against the Chief Executive at the Office of the House Secretary General.
The supposed surrender of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC) was mentioned in the impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. The President’s alleged flood control corruption and illegal drug use were also cited in the impeachment complaint.
The impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. was penned by Atty. Andre de Jesus and endorsed by Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay. It earned different reactions from the Filipinos and some government officials.
Davao City First District Cong. Paolo Duterte claimed that the author of the impeachment complaint is allegedly the same person who represented First Lady Liza Marcos in a disbarment case. According to him, the impeachment complaint allegedly diverts the public attention from the real issues in the country.
Malacañang quickly slammed Cong. Paolo Duterte’s claim that the impeachment complaint against Marcos Jr. is allegedly staged. Some senators including presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos also aired their reactions to the impeachment complaint filed against the President.
According to Sen. Imee Marcos, the impeachment complaint against PBBM is allegedly an obvious “drama series” that will take a year. The Senator has aligned herself with the Dutertes amid the issues in the Philippine government.
Recently, Sen. Risa Hontiveros also spoke on the impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. According to News5, the Senator claimed that she is ready to act as a senator-judge in case the impeachment complaint reaches the Senate.
“Kung umakyat ‘yan dito sa Senate, handa akong gumanap sa tungkulin bilang senator-judge,” Hontiveros said based on the post.
Sen. Risa Hontiveros was one of the four senators who opposed the archiving of the impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte then. Under the lead of then-Senate Pres. Chiz Escudero, the upper chamber earned criticisms over the alleged delay on starting the impeachment trial.
Ahead of any impeachment complaint being filed, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto previously claimed that he will act “forthwith” on any impeachment complaint filed against Marcos Jr. and Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
