In a post, Rabiya Mateo discloses her mental health struggles.
Beauty queen Rabiya Mateo reveals her struggles with mental health and her diagnosis of Major Depressive Disorder With Anxious Distress.
Mental health is a sensitive and broad topic. It is just as important as physical health, as it affects how we think, feel, and act every day, and influences how we handle stress. There could be good and bad days, and this is completely normal. What is not normal is speaking to others with rudeness and in an unkind manner.
It matters how we use our words and tone when talking about and speaking with someone. Recently, in a series of posts, beauty queen Rabiya Mateo appealed to her followers to be kinder in words, as they don’t know what other people are going through internally.
The buzz started after she asked for food recommendations to try in Iloilo. It has been a while since she’s been in Iloilo, and she expressed that she’d love to hear what her fellow Ilonggos would suggest. However, some people created a big deal out of her question.
She had the best intentions when she asked, as there’s still so much she has to experience in their city.
She added that she remains proud of their city, contrary to what others assumed based on her question. She said she did her best to represent their city well, but could no longer tolerate the rudeness of some people.
Mateo then reminded what happened to Eman Atienza because of the unnecessary bashing, and how the negative comments took a toll on her mental health.
In the post that followed, she revealed her diagnosis. She shared, “2025, I was diagnosed with depression and anxious distress. I had my several rounds of medication. I left the country for 3 months so I won’t get triggered by people who have no idea what I’ve been going through.”
