Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Visits Dad Rodrigo Inside the ICC Detention Facility Anew
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed she did not mention the International Criminal Court (ICC) interim release decision to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte during her visit.
The International Criminal Court previously rejected the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte with a unanimous decision from the judges. His lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman, filed an appeal which was recently decided on by the court.
Last November 28, countless supporters of the former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte were saddened after the ICC junked the interim release appeal of his camp. The judges junked all three (3) grounds raised by Duterte’s camp which are as follows:
- The Pre-Trial Chamber erroneously found that Duterte poses a risk under Article 58(1)(b) of the Rome Statute
- The Pre-Trial Chamber erred in its rejection of the guarantees proposed by the State willing to receive him
- The Pre-Trial Chamber erred in law by failing to take into account humanitarian considerations in assessing the right to interim release.
Then, during the ICC hearing over the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, only his grandson, Davao Congressman Omar Duterte, was in The Hague. He was with his wife and their children.
Following the foreign court’s decision, the Duterte family immediately released a statement on the ICC denying the interim release plea of the former President. They assured that they accepted the decision of the foreign court “with peaceful hearts”.
“We will continue to work with the defense team on the case and will keep supporting Former President Rodrigo Duterte with our daily conversations. We thank everyone who prayed with us today,” the Duterte family said.
Recently, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte arrived in The Hague, Netherlands. She has not visited former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte for several weeks after she informed their supporters that the foreign court allegedly barred them from sharing information about their visits inside the ICC detention facility.
Based on a post of News5 on social media, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte revealed that she did not mention the decision of the ICC on the interim release appeal of her father. According to her, former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte drank Sprite Zero — the former President is known to be a huge fan of Coke.
“Ngayon ang ininum niya Ma’am is Sprite Zero,” the Vice President said.
According to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, they talked about family, politics, and what is happening in the Philippines now. Based on the post, when asked if the former President drinks tea, the Vice President answered in the affirmative and claimed that tea is served by medical personnel to her father.
“Yes, pag-ano ‘yung mga medical personnel ang nagha-handle sa kanya ‘yun lang ang ibinibigay sa kanya pati mga lawyers tsa-a lang,” she said.
Previously, Davao Cong. Omar Duterte claimed that they also did not mention about the ICC’s decision on the interim release plea to his grandfather during their visit.
