Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Spoke on Supposed Flood Control Corruption in PH
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President called for accountability on the budget insertion and flood control corruption issues in the Philippines.
Several senators and congressmen were linked to the supposed flood control corruption in the Philippines. One of them is presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez who resigned from being the House speaker amid the accusation of flood control corruption.
According to him, he wants the Independent Commission for Infrastructure to be able to fully and freely exercise its mandate to investigate. The ICI is a three-member body that was created upon the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos for the flood control projects’ investigation.
Amid the flood control mess in the Philippines, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte previously criticized the alleged “slow response” of the office of Marcos Jr. on the corruption issues in the country. Recently, during her visit to Negros Occidental, she spoke anew on the demand for accountability amid the corruption issues in the country.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that she allegedly talked to Pres. Bongbong Marcos about the issues in the 2025 budget when she was still the secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd). According to her, the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are allegedly angry over the corruption issues in the country now.
“Ngayon, nalaman natin hindi lang pala ang 2025 budget ang may problema, 2024, as early as 2023 ay mayroon nang… mga anomalya sa budget,” the Vice President said.
Furthermore, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte claimed that the Philippine government is all investigations and no one is penalized over the corruption issue in the country. According to her, the ICI was allegedly made to “control the story and narrative”.
“Alam na natin na mayroong problema sa budget, alam na natin kung sino yung mga tao na may kagagawan noong anomalya, korapsyon sa ating budget pero hanggang ngayon ay wala pa ring nananagot, puro lang imbestigasyon,” she said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte stressed that she is waiting for accountability on the issues of budget insertions, ghost projects, substandard projects, as well as unfinished projects. She claimed that the unfinished projects is allegedly prone to corruption.
“Nag-aantay tayo sa mga mananagot sa budget insertions, sa ghost projects, substandard projects at sa mga unfinished projects dahil alam naman natin na kadalasan yung unfinished projects ay korapsyon din yan,” the Vice President said.
Amid the recent flooding in some parts of the Philippines, actor Romnick Sarmenta defended Marcos Jr. saying that he is not the only at fault in the flood control issue in the country.
